Hiking at the Wolchulsan National Park
4 Sep • (6.7km, 4.5 hrs Hike)
Sat, Outdoor Rec (3hr. DR)
See Photos from Our Last Trip
Wolchulsan has crags, spires, steel stairways along the trail and a 52m steel bridge crossing a huge gap between rocks. Known to the locals as “The Mountain that the Moon Rises From” because its closeness to the West Sea makes it the first Korean Mountain to get Moonlight The trail starts near the Cheonhwangsa Campground and weaves its way up along a cold picturesque creek to Baram Falls. From here, the trail becomes steep and strenuous but you’ll be rewarded with great views from Cheonwangbong (809m). Although the trail backtracks onto itself for a short-ways, the way back down is an adventure in itself as it traverses over to and around the rock spires that make up Sajabong (408m) before it reappears in the Cheongwang Valley. Further down the trail we cross Gureumdari, the highest grinder bridge in Korea, 52m long and 120m above the ground. Half dozen more steel ladders and you are back down onto the cold picturesque creek and 1km from the finish.
$35 includes transportation, guide, and entrance fee.
